Install
One binary.
Nothing else to set up.
Prebuilt snapshots are published after every successful build of the main branch. They track current development rather than a versioned release. The installer detects your architecture and selects the matching snapshot.
A · Install script
Install or update l
curl -fsSL https://lang.cebecifaruk.com/install.sh | shUninstall
curl -fsSL https://lang.cebecifaruk.com/install.sh | sh -s -- --uninstallRunning the install command again safely replaces the existing binary with the latest verified snapshot. Unix installs to $XDG_BIN_HOME/l when configured, or ~/.local/bin/l otherwise. Windows installs to %LOCALAPPDATA%\l\bin\l.exe. The scripts never edit PATH, shell profiles, or configuration files.
B · Manual download
Download the binary yourself
Rename the downloaded file to l, or l.exe on Windows, and place it in a directory on PATH. On macOS and Linux, also make it executable with chmod +x. Published checksums are available in SHA256SUMS.
The installers verify the published SHA-256 checksum before replacing the compiler. The Linux snapshots are built on Ubuntu 24.04 and require glibc 2.39 or newer. Checking source and emitting code require no additional tool. The Windows snapshots cannot link Windows programs: the bundled native linker supports Linux, macOS, and bare-metal ELF. On Linux and macOS, running a program also requires LLD and the platform development tools described in Targets and C Interoperation.

VS Code extension
code --install-extension ./l-vscode.vsixThe extension adds syntax highlighting and language configuration for .l files from the same grammar this site highlights its samples with. It is installed from the downloaded package, either with the command above or with Extensions: Install from VSIX… in the command palette, and is published as a snapshot alongside the compiler rather than through the Marketplace.
